ABOUT THE SHOOT

The partridge shoot starts on the first Saturday in September and continues until the end of November. There are 5 drives for 8 to 10 guns. The average bag in 2010/11 was over 300 birds. It is also possible to take smaller driven days mid-week with target bags of 100-150 birds.

The pheasant shoot, for 8 guns, starts on the first Saturday in November and continues on every other Saturday until the end of January. There is a choice of 9 main drives which now include 2 new drives off Cleggan Hill. There are a further 10 drives used for small driven days, as well as walked up days. See the Reservations page for details.

It may be possible to have a mixed day of 2/3 partridge drives and 2/3 pheasant drives from the beginning of November.

There are around 40 beaters, pickers up and drivers who join the main driven shoots. Every gun will have a picker up standing with him all day for the driven shoot days.

The gun's lunch room features a collection of sporting art and trophies and is well known for its roast rib of beef on the bone, to be carved by one of the guns.
